Seal trip (Wadden Hike)

Galgereef is one of the places in the Wadden Sea where you can see the harbor seal, Saeler 2
and we may be lucky to see the larger gray seal.
On the seal the banks we can observe adult seals and pups.
Usually there are 150 - 200 seals at the bank.

A trip for both large and small.
Exploring the beach, sand and water are always a hit for kids - and who does not save a small child inside.

On the way out to the seal banks we walk over the Wadden Sea -
which at low tide is drained - which in itself is a unique experience.

Along the way, we examine the animal and bird life.
We dig for sand worms, find hermit crabs and Laver Spire shells.
We try to move like the birds.

And maybe we find a piece of amber.

Bring binoculars (if you got one), camera and a bag for shells.

Tips for families with children:

It's a good idea go to the beach 6 hours before or after the tour - so the kids can see for themselves the difference between low and high tide.

Or take the picnic basket with you and let the kids play in the sand dunes - while you follow how the water enters the drained Wadden Sea – and it becomes an ocean again.

Oystertour.

Do you like oysters? Oesters

We go out to the Oyster banks off Halen.
Here we gather oysters in our bags (bring your own bags).
It is easy to assemble for 300 DKK oysters! Wenn we´re back on the beach again,
we open some of the oysters - so everyone can taste!

You will get an introduction to the immigration of the Pacific oyster in the Wadden Sea
and its marvelous life (oysters sex life is something special :-)).

On the way out to the oyster bank, we will look closely at the rich wildlife of the Wadden Sea's -
and hear a little about why the Wadden Sea has been included on UNESCO's World Heritage list.

Back at the beach again, we have turned on the grill -
so everyone can taste oysters both raw and cooked differently.
Champagne belongs to oysters so we serve a glass at the end of tour.

Everyone gets Strandskadens Oyster Cookbook - so you can try different recipes at home.

We meet at the end of Halevejen. Follow the signs for the last bit.
Remember bags to have the oysters in and dress according to the weather
(it is colder at the Wadden Sea than on the beach) and rubber boots.

Fanø Nordsøbad anno 1900

You are invited back to the glory bathing place in the last century,
when the characteristic buildings were constructed in the desert dune area on Fanoe west coast.

We will on this trip see the houses from different eras in Fano Bad's history -
and hear the funny anecdotes - related to the various seaside hotels.
You will have the opportunity to see illustrations of how the place looked like in those days.

On the tour we will have a look at Hitler's Atlantic Wall -
which is an essential part of the story in Fano Bad area.

You will also be introduced to characteristic nature of the area.

We end the tour on Kellers Hotel - which is one of the original beach hotels.
Interiors at the Kellers Hotel is preserved as seaside hotels were in the early 1900s.
Kellers Hotel is a mighty charming place.

Søren Jessen Sand is in the summer characterized by sand

of desert climate and the North Sea in combination.
An experience which equivalent is not available in many other places.

By Grådybet we can get a sense of the enormous amounts of water
which every day is transported through the Wadden Sea.

Do you have a small dambuilder in you - this is the place to challenge it.
Especially children tend to have a lot of fun by building dams to guard against the tide.

On the way out, we will also look at some of the bunkers posts that belong to Fanoe location in Hitler's Atlantic Wall.
One can get into the bunkers - so bring flashlights.

In addition to this, you get a few good stories about spectacular strandings.

This is a trip that has it all: The Wadden Sea in all its power and might, WW2 importance of Fano -
and the history of the baths life in former times.

through the ages.

We taste the glasswort (suitable for foccacia bread).

From here we walk out on Hønen - on the way we pass the old Sønderho.

On Hønen, we have an ample opportunity to study the bird life,
the flora and the special light that drew the Golden Age painters to the island.

Herb schnapps - Nature on at bottle Snaps
The Herb schnapps' are popular as never before, and under carefully guidance

but also inspiration for new herbs and combinations.

Since the custom of making extracts of wild and cultivated plants goes as far back
as the early Middle Ages, there is of course also a number of good stories
associated with schnapps - these stories is of coursepart of the tour.

The individual schnapps herbs have different habitat and -season.
The tours have therefore different content and routes.
Some driving must be expected from the common starting place.
